According to the latest demographics and labor force statistics issued by the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI), Kuwait’s total population has scored approximately 4.651 million in the end of June 2019. This means the population increased in half a year by 0.6% (1.2% on annual basis). The total population increased positively by 2.7% in 2018 versus 2%, 4.1%, and 3.6% in the years of 2017, 2016, and 2015 respectively. The absolute increase of population in half a year scored about 29.4 thousand compared to 121.2 for year 2018. Kuwaitis increased by 13.4 thousand during the first half of 2019, 1% growth rate (2% on annual basis), bringing their total to 1.416 million. As such, Kuwaitis percentage out of the total population slightly increased from 30.36% in the end of 2018 to about 30.46% according to the latest figures. Kuwaiti females whose number is 723.3 thousand outnumber the 693.2 thousand males. The number of non-Kuwaitis also increased slightly by about 16 thousand, a 0.5% growth rate, bringing their total to 3.235 million with an annual compound growth rate of 3.3% during the years 2009-June 2019.
Total number of workers in Kuwait scored approximately 2.86 million workers, or about 61.5% of the total population. This percentage scored 30.6% for Kuwaitis of the total Kuwaiti population. But the non-Kuwaiti workers’ percentage out of non-Kuwaiti population amounted to 75.1%. The Kuwaiti labor force percentage, out of total number of workers in Kuwait, remained the same at 15.1% in June 2019 and December 2018. Proportion of female workers in the total Kuwaiti workforce rose to approximately 48.8% in the first six months of the current year (48.7% in the end of last year). This percentage formed 25.1% out of the total labor force in Kuwait. Number of Kuwaiti workers increased by 7.6 thousand workers bringing their number to about 432.9 thousand workers in the first half of 2019 up from 425.3 thousand workers in the end of 2018. About 340 thousand of them are employed in the government (78.5% of total Kuwaiti workers). About 660 jobs were made for Kuwaitis outside the public sector, a growth rate by 1% (2% on annual basis). It is believed that Kuwaiti’s unveiled unemployment rate increased to about 28.3 thousand workers, 6.5% of total Kuwaiti workers on 30/06/2019 versus 26 thousand workers (6.1% in the end of 2018). Total workers (Kuwaiti and non-Kuwaiti) in the government sector scored about 460.7 thousand workers, about 9.9% of the total population. Kuwaitis percentage -out of total labor force in government sector- formed 73.8%.
