According to the latest demographics and labor force statistics issued by the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI), Kuwait’s total population has scored approximately 4.776 million by the end of 2019, indicating that total population increased by 3.3% since the end of 2018, and total population increased by 2.7% in 2018 versus 2%, 4.1%, 3.6% and 3.2% in the years 2017, 2016, 2015 and 2014 respectively. The absolute increase of population in 2019 reached 154.8 thousand, of which 28.9 thousand were Kuwaitis, by an annual growth rate of 2.1%, bringing their total to 1.432 million. As such, Kuwaitis percentage out of total population decreased from 30.36% in the end of 2018 to nearly 29.98% in the end of 2019. Kuwaiti females totaled 731 thousand outnumbering that of 701 thousand males, number of non-Kuwaitis increased by 125.8 thousand, a 3.9% growth rate (2.8% in 2018), bringing their total to 3.344 million with a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.6% during 2010-2019.
Total number of labor force in Kuwait scored approximately 2.966 million workers, or about 62.1% of total population, for Kuwaitis this percentage was at 30.7% of total Kuwaiti population. On the other hand, the non-Kuwaiti workers’ percentage out of non-Kuwaiti population increased from 74.5% in the end 2018 to 75.5% in the end of 2019. Kuwaiti labor force percentage out of the total number of labor force in Kuwait, dropped from 15.1% in 2018 to 14.8% in 2019. Proportion of female workers in the total Kuwaiti labor force rose to approximately 49.3%, while the total female labor force out of the total labor force in Kuwait reached 28.1%. Number of Kuwaiti workers scored 440 thousand workers, and about 345 thousand of them are employed in the government sector which represents 78.4% of total Kuwaiti labor force.
